Better health in my old age
Once again using the Dr. Fuhrman regime to get a bit healthier.
Here's the guy's web site: http://www.drfuhrman.com.
His book, Eat to Live, is inexpensive on Amazon.
His approach is basically eat 2 large salads (using a lot of romaine, not iceberg, lettuce) and fruit every day, and cut back on animal protein, fats, sugars, and other refined carbs. He also likes legumes and nuts. I have almost lost my sweet tooth. This is not to everyone's taste, and it is not a temporary approach - he recommends adopting foods you can eat the rest of your life.
What persuades me about his approach is that he is a general practice MD, he has done a large literature review, and he has treated a lot of diabetic patients with great success.
Oh, and the last time I followed his recommendations, I lost 55 pounds in 6 months, and was never hungry. This time I'm taking it much more slowly, and exercising at the same time (20 - 25 minutes on the treadmill each morning and saying a Rosary at the same time, combining physical and spiritual exercises.). My goal is not weight loss per se, but better health, especially to ease the arthritis that is developing, get weight off of my bad knees, and make sure I don't become diabetic.
Better health, especially in my old age 20 and 30 years from now, is the goal. Many of my ancestors lived into their 80s and 90s, and I don't want to be bedridden in my dotage if I can avoid it....
